People sharing their stories during a recovery support group

Born from lived experience. Built on compassion.

Pivot Point Recovery exists because one man's journey through addiction, incarceration, and recovery became a mission to ensure no one in Northern Virginia has to recover alone.

Meet Steve Turner, Founder

"No one has to face crisis alone."

At nineteen, Steve Turner joined the United States Marine Corps looking for direction and purpose. But his struggle with drugs cut that chapter short — a general discharge closed a door he had only just opened.

Steve found steady work in the pile drivers union in Washington, D.C., building a career with his hands. Then a serious job injury left him in long-term pain, and doctors prescribed opiates. What began as treatment gradually became something else entirely. The medication that was supposed to help him heal became the thing that unraveled his life.

Over the years that followed, addiction took nearly everything. Steve experienced homelessness and incarceration. He cycled through treatment programs across multiple states, stringing together only brief stretches of sobriety before falling back into the grip of the disease. Every attempt felt like starting over from nothing.

The Turning Point

On April 28, 2023, Steve found himself alone in a hotel room in Kansas City. He had reached a place beyond exhaustion — a stillness where the excuses and the bargaining finally went quiet. And in that silence, he made a different decision. For the first time in decades, he truly asked for help.

He entered treatment in Chicago, and from there he moved into GuildHaus, a recovery residence that would change his understanding of what recovery could be. At GuildHaus, Steve didn't just find structure — he found a community that showed up when someone was in crisis. He learned to work through failure and setbacks instead of running from them. He began to rebuild trust. He started taking responsibility for his life — not just in words, but in daily practice.

"Recovery gave me the chance to learn how to be a better partner, a better father, and a better neighbor."

From Recovery to Purpose

Through recovery, Steve began repairing the relationships that mattered most. He learned what it meant to be present — for his children, for the people around him, for himself. The community that held him up during his hardest moments showed him something he couldn't unsee: that healing doesn't happen in isolation. It happens when people support one another.

Today, Steve Turner is a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist with forensic and crisis endorsements. He has channeled every hard-won lesson from his journey into founding Pivot Point Recovery — a community recovery hub built on one simple, powerful belief: that no one should have to face their darkest moment alone, and that when we show up for each other, recovery is possible for everyone.
